| Shared note | Alt Birth: 22 Mar 1829 Saint Just In Penwith, Cornwall, England from Kylie Veale. Unfortunately this is the wrong Jacob as the marriage register states that Jacob was 24 when married (in 1856). Kylie's Jacob has parents as John Eddy and Mary Edwards. Notes from Doug Eddy: Jacob married Mary Jane Eddy on 23/9/1856 and moved to Australia immediately. Their first child John was born in March 1857 in Australia, a reason to emigrate. He worked as a miner, achieving the position of foreman in the Chiltern Valley Goldmine (about halfway between Chiltern and Rutherglen). He died of acute neuralgia in 1892 in Chiltern, where he is buried. Notes from Robert William Eddy on the First Families website (http://www.firstfamilies2001.net.au/firstfamily.cfm?id=Eddy1591391238): Jacob and Mary Jane Eddy arrived in Adelaide on February 13th 1857 and promptly embarked on the "White Swan" headed for Melbourne. The next few years were spent on and around the Fryers Creek goldfields area. The expanding family then moved to Daylesford where they lived for most of the 1860's. They then spent some years at Eldorado before finally moving to Chiltern, where Jacob was appointed Captain of the Great Northern Mine. I am descended from their son, William Eddy. |
