| Shared note | The 1851 Census had No.16 at Botallack, St Just, John EDDY, unmarried, 49, tin miner, born St Just; with brother Edward, head, married, 52, and family. Similarly, in the 1841 census (ref, St Just in Penwith 4-17... next door to brother Richard), John (35, miner) is living in Botallack with Edward, Jane and their 8 month old son Edward. There is a will for a John EDDY which I believe to be this one, miner, St Just, dated 1855. It refers to 2 brothers, Richard (who had emigrated to Australia) and Edward. Ronald Rowe supplied me with a transcription of this will which also states that John EDDY died on or about 5 April 1857 and his will proved to Edward EDDY 27 June 1857. Checking the baptism registers, there is another possible family that this will would fit; John and Mary EDDY who had children baptised Edward 9 Sep 1835, John 8 Apr 1822 and Richard 6 Jan 1819. However as John died 1857, I feel that this family is too young to be the one mentioned in the will. Here is the will: John Eddy St Just in Penwith 1855 Miner This is the last Will and Testament of «b»John Eddy of the Parish of Saint Just «/b»in the County of Cornwall. First I give devise and bequeath unto «b»my Brother Richard Eddy «/b»my one half part of the Dwelling House and Premises situate in the tenement of Botallack in the said Parish of Saint Just and now in the occupation of «b»Charles Ferrel «/b»as Tenant with also my one half part of the Great Meadow situate in the said Tenement of Botallack in the said Parish and containing about Eighty Poles more or less «b»my said brother Richard Eddy «/b»should refuse to take for his one half of Land the above Great Meadow without having any right or title whatever to the little Meadow or his heirs if in case he should not return from Australia all that is heretofore given belonging to me to «b»my Brother Richard Eddy «/b»I shall give devise and bequeath unto «b»my Brother Edward Eddy «/b»and to his Executors Administrators and Assigns. Lastly I give devise and bequeath unto «b»my Brother Edward Eddy «/b»all and every my Messuages Lands Tenements Hereditaments and Premises and all others my Goods Chattels Monies Rights Credits Property and Effects (which is not herein before given to «b»my Brother Richard Eddy«/b») and to «b»my said Brother Edward Eddys «/b»Executors Administrators and Assigns during my Estate Term and Interest therein. And I do also make nominate and appoint «b»my said Brother Edward Eddy «/b»the Executor of this my last Will and Testament utterly revoking and disannulling all former Wills made by me. In witness whereof I John Eddy the Testator have hereunto set my Hand this Twenty second day of May One thousand Eight hundred and fifty five. Signed published and declared by the said John Eddy the Testator as his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as Witnesses.
