| Shared note | Looking for possible marriages for Peter: 1. Peter Eddy m. Mary Edmonds, 6 Feb 1816 St Hilary. He is noted as of St Just. (This Peter was recorded as from Kenidjack when son Henry was baptised, tallying with a Peter that was buried 25 Apr 1839 in St Just aged 52 of Kenidjack. In turn this gives a birth year of about 1787, tallying with baptism for Peter son of Matthew and Elizabeth that had connections with Kendijack.) 2. Peter Eddy m. Johanna Andrews, 5 Mar 1825 St Just. 3. Peter Eddy m. Mary Cock, 23 Jan 1838 St Just. (Age given as 22 eliminates this Peter.) 4. Peter Eddy m. Elizabeth Rowe, 13 Mar 1841 St Just. (Age given as 22 eliminates this Peter.) Although marriage 2 is the only possible match, this may have been to a different Peter Eddy. Possible Peters that were baptised in St Just: A. 5 Nov 1787, son of Matthew and Elizabeth. (He of marriage 1 above.) B. 21 Apr 1794, son of John and Mary (i.e. this Peter) C. 15 Sep 1799, James and Honor. The next thing to look at is the children baptised to Peter and Johanna, but unfortunately there was only 1, Mary, baptised 4 Apr 1828 in St Just. Residence was noted as Carnyorth and Peter's profession a miner. Also noted: Mary attested to be five years old. The name Mary doesn't help as both B and C had close family with that name. I can't find a marriage for Mary, nor can I find her in the 1841 census, but I can't find a burial either. There is a burial for a Johanna Eddy, 22 Sep 1869 in St Just, aged 75. This is almost certainly the Johanna from marriage 2 above. I couldn't find her in the 1861 census return, but in 1851 she is a widow, 61, and lodger with a Hollow family in Trewellard. In 1841 she is in the Penzance Union Workhouse, aged 49, 'attending infirm women', so already appears destitute. Presumably she was already widowed before 1841. I can't find Peter in the 1841 census however nor can I found a burial for Peter. Back to Mary's baptism, the Carnyorth residence provides a clue... needs investigating. |
