There is a burial record for 22 Apr 1863, St Just Wesleyan for a John of Botallack which could be this John but as no age is mentioned there's no surety. Alternatively maybe he emigrated like his uncle John did in 1866. I can't find James in the 1881 census, however there is a Mary Eddy aged 60 (not quite right), widow, born St Levan (consistent with 1861 census) at Botallack Moor (again, consistent with 1861), living with Margaret J. Eddy, 14 (was 5 in 1871 census, so close enough), Green Grocers Assistant (her brother, James, ran a Green Grocer shop in Botallack, so provides a link to this family). But oddly, she is recorded as Mary's granddaughter. Also, I found a burial record for a James Eddy, 27 May 1876, at St Just Wesleyan. James was recorded as age 54 of Botallack. The age is not quite right, but given his absence from the 1881 census and finding a close match to his wife recorded as a widow, I have attributed the burial to this James. (I've also checked the 1871 census for any other James Eddy's of a similar age in Botallack - there was one but he was also in the 1881 census.) |
