In the 'Whether blind or deaf-and-dumb' column, there is a note with 3 or 4 words that are illegible and then Penzance is recognisable. I'm not sure who were the parents of Thomas the grandson.

There is probably a mis-transcription by CFHS of William's age in the 1891 census (88) as this contradicts records from the other census returns (ignoring 1841 where ages were rounded down to nearest 5).

There is no obvious baptism record to match this William EDDY. The ages given in the census returns would suggest a birth year of 1809-1810. The census returns also give birth location of Paul. There are the following baptism records for a William EDDY between 1806 and 1811 and ignoring 4 from Wendron, Stithians and Budock that are very unlikely. Son of: (a) Oliver EDDY & Mary - 18 Jun 1806 St Just in Penwith (b) Nathaniel EDDY & - - 03 Nov 1807 Zennor (c) William EDDY & Jane - 08 Nov 1807 St Just in Penwith (d) William EDDY & Elizabeth - 22 Nov 1807 Paul (e) William EDDY & Elizabeth - 06 Mar 1808 St Buryan (f) James EDDY & Jane - 22 May 1808 St Just in Penwith (g) William EDDY & - - 21 Aug 1808 Zennor (h) William EDDY & Grace - 26 Nov 1808 St Just in Penwith (i) William EDDY & Elizabeth - 02 Apr 1809 St Just in Penwith (j) Andrew EDDY & - - 02 Jun 1811 Zennor

Of these we can dismiss a, b, f, h and j, as these parents' names weren't passed down. Also (i) has been attributed to a different family, and there is a burial record in St Buryan (30 May 1829 age 22) which would match e. This leaves c, d, and g as possibles, of which d would appear to be the best match given that it is the only baptism in Paul, but this would make him older than recorded in the 1851-1881 census returns. I have tried to find a William EDDY born Paul about 1807 in the census returns without success, so in the absence of any better proof I have adopted d as the correct baptism for this William EDDY. Maybe the baptism entry was mis-transcribed and was 1809... I need to check the original.
