Shared note

John was recorded as a carpenter of Trevorian when son Thomas was baptised (1830).

Can't find a John EDDY carpenter in the 1841 census.

The 1851 census has John's son, Thomas, living with his grandparents William and Elizabeth at Chapel Street, St Just. Elizabeth's age is given as 72 (suggesting a birth year of 1779) but is given as 87 in the 1861 census, suggesting a birth year of 1774! If we assume the earliest as a worst case scenario, and that she was at least 16 when she had John, John would have been born after 1790. Also from the 1861 census, son Thomas was aged 31 and so his birth year was abt 1830 (he was baptised 2 May 1830) and assuming John was at least 14 when son Thomas born, John must have been born before 1816.

So, there are only the following 3 baptisms in the nearby area, of a John EDDY, son of William and Elizabeth, 1790-1816, son of: (a) William and Elizabeth, 2 Sep 1810, St Buryan (b) William and Elizabeth, 1 Nov 1813, St Just. William a joiner of Church Town (c) Richard and Elizabeth, 13 Mar 1814, Zennor. Richard a miner of Trewey

(c) is unlikely as there's no other reference to Zennor.

(b) is interesting as William is recorded as a joiner, as is John when son Thomas was baptised in 1830. However, I currently have this John marrying Elizabeth TREZISE (who are in the 1841 census and without a son Thomas), BUT, I'm not certain that this is correct. Couple (b) also had Ann (1813), Jane (1817) and Eliza (1822).

(a) is also interesting as it is in St Buryan, which we know this family line has connections with - John's mother Elizabeth was born there (as recorded in the 1851 and 1861 census returns), John was working there when son Thomas was baptised, and Thomas was baptised there. Also, having researched all the William EDDY and Elizabeth marriages (from 1801 to 1816, there were 4) and children baptised to a William and Elizabeth in St Just and St Buryan (there were 32!), I believe the 5 children baptised in St Buryan belong to couple (a), the latter 2 stated father William was a yeoman of Trevorian. With this connection, I have linked couple (a) to this John.
