Shared note

Thomas' baptism register entry states his surname as EDDY / WALLISH, base child of John EDDY and Sarah WALLISH.

I think I have found Thomas in the 1841 census. I couldn't find a Thomas EDDY, however there is a Thomas WALLIS at Trevorian, St Buryan - a male servant to John SHORT (70, independent) and Mary SHORT (85, independent). Interestingly, there is another male servant, Richard EDDY (20) and an Elizabeth EDDY (60, with, according to the Cornwall Online Census Project transcription, the word 'inmate' crossed out).

The breakthrough for this family came in the 1851 census return. Thomas, his wife Margaret and their daughter Elizabeth A., are living with his grandparents, William EDDY and Elizabeth, at Chapel Street, St Just.

Thomas was recorded as a miner of St Just when when children Thomas Henry, William, John Charles and Martha were baptised (1852, 1854, 1857 and 1858).

In the 1861 census at Carn Bosavern, St Just (ref 11-82): EDDY Thomas Head M 31 Sennen CON tin miner EDDY Margaret Wife M 35 St Just CON EDDY Elizabeth A Daughter - 11 St Just CON scholar EDDY Thomas H Son - 9 St Just CON scholar EDDY William Son - 7 St Just CON scholar EDDY Richard Son - 5m St Just CON EDDY Elizabeth Grandmother W 87 St Buryan CON

In the 1871 census at 'Bosaven Cott' (probably Bosavern and Cot valley) St Just (ref 11-175): Eddy Thomas Head M 41 Miner Sennen Cornwall Eddy Margaret Wife M 45 St Just Cornwall Eddy Elizabeth A Dau U 22 Domestic St Just Cornwall Eddy Thomas H Son U 19 Miner St Just Cornwall Eddy William Son 17 Miner St Just Cornwall Eddy Richard Son 9 Scholar St Just Cornwall Eddy James Son 5 Scholar St Just Cornwall Eddy John Son 3 St Just Cornwall Eddy Margaret J Dau 6m St Just Cornwall

In the 1881 census at Green Lane, St Just (ref 16-98): Eddy Margaret Head M 57 Tin Miners Wife (Crossed Out) St Just Cornwall Eddy Richard Son S 17 Tin Miner St Just Cornwall Eddy Elizabeth A Dau S 30 Charwoman St Just Cornwall Eddy James Son 14 Trav'er In Groceries(X-Ed Out) St Just Cornwall Eddy John Son 12 Errand Boy General Servant St Just Cornwall Note: Gen Srvnt crossed out Eddy Margaret Dau 11 Scholar St Just Cornwall Eddy Elizabeth Dau U 2m St Just Cornwall

I suspect the bottom Elizabeth is actually a granddaughter, given the information in the 1891 census below.

In the 1891 census at Green Lane, St Just (ref 16-104): Eddy Margaret Head M 69 St Just Cornwall Eddy Richard Son S 27 Tin Miner Employed St Just Cornwall Eddy James Son S 22 Tin Miner Employed St Just Cornwall Eddy Lizzie Grndau 11 St Just Cornwall Eddy Annie Grndau 4 St Just Cornwall

I'm not sure whose children Lizzie and Annie are.
