Although there is no conclusive proof of who are William's parents, I believe he is the son of William EDDY that married Elizabeth ROWE on 1 Jun 1801 in St Just. I think the following pieces of evidence present quite a strong case, but are not totally conclusive so could still be wrong. 1. When William married Jane WILLIAMS, the marriage register noted he was of Morvah. 2. Witnesses to their marriage included William EDDY, and although he could have been a cousin or a friend, it is more likely that this was William's father. 3. William and Jane named their first son William Rowe EDDY. Jane's parents' surnames were WILLIAMS and WARREN, so ROWE is likely to have come from the paternal side of the family, most likely William's mother's maiden name 4. William's ages in the census returns suggest he was born about 1809 in St Just 5. There is a baptism record for a William EDDY (that I believe to be this one) on 2 Apr 1809 in St Just in Penwith, son of William EDDY & Elizabeth. 6. There is a marriage record which I believe to be William's parents; William EDDY and Elizabeth ROWE on 1 Jun 1801 at St Just in Penwith, in which it is noted that William is of Morvah. 7. Both William junior and senior were innkeepers at some stage.
