Marriage

Notes from Geoff McKee: William EDDY (son of Jacob EDDY and Elizabeth BUSPIDECK) (27) married Margaret CASLEY (daughter of Gabriel CASLEY and Margaret HATTAM) (30) 4 Jun 1838 St Just by banns, both of this parish, in the presence of James GARD and John TREGEAR.

Jessie Evans adds: William EDDY, 27 bachelor miner from Nanquilian, son of Jacob EDDY a labourer, and Margaret CASLEY, 22 spinster from Churchtown, daughter of Gabriel CASLEY was a miner.

Note the discrepancy between the two sources regarding Margaret's age.

Shared note

I can find no baptism record for this William who would have been Jacob and Elizabeth's 2nd son of this name. There are burial records for a William EDDY (30 Oct 1791 in St Just in Penwith and 2 May 1812 in St Just in Penwith) which may belong to the first William, but this is far from conclusive.

There are, however, several pieces of information which suggest that this William is closely related to the family of Jacob and Elizabeth. The 3 most noteworthy are: 1. William was living next door to Jacob and Elizabeth in the 1841 census 2. William's daughter Sally/Sarah was with Jacob and Elizabeth in the 1841 census 3. William had a son named George, as did Jacob and Elizabeth

An alternative connection with Jacob and Elizabeth is that William could be their grandson, as Jacob and Elizabeth's sons William, Jacob and Richard would all have been old enough to have a son in 1812. I can find nothing to back this up, but the absence of a baptism entry means there is doubt over who William's parent's were.
