| Shared note | Possible marriages for a John EDY/EDDY are: (a) John EDY and Mary JAMES, 17 Oct 1721, St Just in Penwith (b) John EDDY and Elizabeth EDDY, 29 Jun 1732, Zennor (c) John EDDY and Mary MATTHEW, 02 Nov 1738, St Just in Penwith However, there were other baptisms for John EDYs that could have married the above: (A) John EDY, son of Bernard EDY & - -, 22 Nov 1696, St Just in Penwith (B) John EDY, son of John EDY & - -, 16 Feb 1696/97, St Just in Penwith (C) John EDY, son of Richard EDY & - -, 26 Mar 1705, St Just in Penwith One indication is the naming pattern of the children from each couple, and I believe couple: (a), John EDY and Mary JAMES, had Alice, John, Mary, Jacob and Mary (b), John EDDY and Elizabeth EDDY... can't find any children (c), John EDDY and Mary MATTHEW, had John, Mary, James, William, William, Pascoe, Mary and Elizabeth. The more unusual names are Alice, Jacob and Pascoe, and investigating these could provide clues as to which John baptised (A)-(C) married which wife (a)-(c). Starting with Alice, I can only find one baptism for an Alice EDY/EDDY in or around St Just in Penwith before that of the one above (10 Dec 1721), namely Alice EDY, daughter of William, baptised 14 Mar 1718/19 in Morvah. The name could therefore have come from a maternal line. It appears that the mother of (C), wife of Richard, was Alice CLEMENTS. However, this connection with the name Alice given to the daughter of (a) is doubtful as that combination would have meant John was aged about 16/17 when married - suspiciously young. I can find no other baptisms for a Pascoe before that of the one mentioned above. |
