Marriage

Notes from Geoff McKee: William EDDY married Margaret WILLIAMS 4 Nov 1833 in St Just by banns, both of this parish, in the presence of Thomas WOOLCOCK and John EDDY.

Shared note

In the 1891 census, Margaret is with daughter Jane and son-in-law.

Margaret's ages in the 1851 - 1891 census returns varied: 35, 47, 58, 69 and 80! These suggest birth years of 1816, 1814, 1813, 1812 and 1811. What is consistent is that she was recorded as born in St Just. Assuming she was baptised in St Just, there are the following possibilities, the daughter of: (a) Martin and Jenefer, he a miner of Numphra, 20 Aug 1813 (b) Richard and Mary, he a miner of 'Kelinack', 13 Aug 1814

I can find no marriage for couple (a) but there was one between Martin WILLIAMS and a Jane LETHAN in St Just on 9 Sep 1809, which would match this couple, especially as there were several children baptised to Martin and Jane from Numphra. These were: Martin (x), Margaret, Edward (x3), Mary, Jane, Nanny.

Couple (b) would appear to be Richard WILLIAMS who married Mary HOCKING in St Just on 8 Dec 1805. They had the following children: Richard, Constance, Mary, Thomas, Margaret and John.

From the names given to Margaret's children, it would seem that couple (a) are the better match, given that the names Jane, Margaret, Mary and Nanny were all passed down.
