Obituary: The Cornishman, Thursday 6 October 1898 (Cornwall, England)

SAD NEWS FROM ABROAD.— Mrs. Eddy, of Hendra, St. Just, has received the sad intelligence of the death of her son, Mr. George Eddy, who died from injuries received while working in the Witwatersrand mine, Johannesburg, Sep. 8th, by the breaking away of the cage. Deceased had been in the country about two years and four months, and was highly respected. His brother, Mr. James Eddy, was near him at the time. Deceased was buried in the Johannesburg cemetery Sep. 9th, in the presence of a large number of people, including "boys" from his own parish and immediate neighbourhood, who acted as bearers. There were several carriages in addition to the hearse. Much sympathy is felt for Mrs. Eddy and her family, thus bereft of a good son and affectionate brother, "called away" at the early age of 27.
