| Shared note | I haven't been able to find a marriage record for Jacob and Mary, but assuming Jacob was at least 18 when their daughter Elizabeth was baptised (1753), I have found the following possible baptisms for a Jacob, son of: (a) John EDY & Mary -, 24 Dec 1731, St Just in Penwith (b) Matthew EDY & Joan -, 15 Jan 1704/05, St Just in Penwith I believe (a) is the correct Jacob as (b) would have been an unlikely 59 years old when son Richard was baptised. Notes from Geoff McKee: Jacob EDDY of St Just, now living in Sancreed, yeoman, made a will 11 Jun 1808, naming daughters Elizabeth EDDY (exec.) and Margaret, wife of Stephen HUMPHRYS; son Jacob; and grandson John EDDY. Witnesses were Richd. LAVIS [who marked] and Thomas OATS. The will was proved 10 May 1809 to daughter Elizabeth EDDY. The following is Jacob's will, transcription of courtesy of Ronald Rowe: Jacob Eddy St Just In Penwith 1808 Yeoman In the Name of God, Amen. The 11th day of June 1808 I «b»Jacob Eddy of the Parish of St Just in Penwith «/b»in the County of Cornwall but «b»now residing in the Parish of St Creet «/b»in the said county, yeoman, being at this time of sound mind and memory thanks be to God, therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body. Do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament. That is to say principally and first of all I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my Body to the earth to be buried in a decent Christian burial at the expense of my Executrix herein after named and as touching such worldly effects wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in manner following - First I give and bequeath unto «b»my daughter the wife of Stephen Humphrys, Margaret Humprys «/b»Ten shillings to be paid by my Executrix one month after my decease. Also I hive and bequeath unto «b»my son Jacob Eddy «/b»my bed and bedding and brass crock. Also I hive and bequeath unto «b»my grandson John Eddy «/b»ten shillings and sixpence to be paid him by my Executrix one month after my decease. Also I will and order that there shall be six pair of gloves provided at my funeral for them that carrys my corps. Lastly I give and bequeath unto «b»my daughter Elizabeth Eddy «/b»whom I likewise constitute make and ordain my sole Executrix of this my last will and testament all the remainder of my goods chattles and effects of what kind soever they be, to be by her possessed and enjoyed. And I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disanull all former testaments wills legacies and Executors by me made. Ratifying and confirming this and none other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written. Signed sealed published and declared to be my last will and testament in presence of Richard Lavis....etc. the sign and seal of Jacob Eddy |
