| Shared note | Death cert no 107 Notes from David John & Lorraine Eddy: James Eddy was fifteen years old when he arrived in South Australia with his father, step-mother and brothers. He married Emily Kessell at Walleroo on the 31st of October in 1885, after the death of his mother. They had three children, the first born in Sandhurst (later named Bendigo), and the two younger ones were born in South Australia. He arrived alone aboard the "Gates" from Port Adelaide on December 4, 1895, landing at Albany. Emily and the children were accompanied by Samuel Eddy (his wife and 8 children arrived after he had established himself) aboard the RMS (Royal Mail Ship) "Oraya" on January 11th, 1896. In the 1902 Electoral Roles, Emily was listed as a married domestic residing at 70 Lake Street, Trafalgar. James died when he was 55 years old, on the 25th September, 1916 of miner's complaint and is buried at the Kalgoorlie Cemetery. James & Emily owned the Walleroo Hotel. I suspect Emily owned the tearooms at Boulder where Walter's body lay before his funeral. He was known to have mined at the Walleroo copper fields, Sandhurst gold mines, Broken Hill silver mines, and at the Paddington and Kanowna gold mines and around Kalgoorlie-Boulder leases. * Kalgoorlie mines was often written as Kalgurlie. Emily remarried when she moved to Perth and is buried at the Karrakatta Cemetery as Emily Williams. |
