Marriage

Noted as "William of Mervah". Married by licence.

Notes from Geoff McKee: William EDDY (son of Andrew EDDY and Jane JENKIN) of Morvah married Ann MASON (daughter of Thomas MASON and Blanch LEGGO) 22 May 1777 St Just by lic., she of this parish, in the presence of Thos. TREGEAR and Henry WILLIAMS.

Shared note

In the baptism register, the entry for Thomas EDDY (William's son) states that he is the son of William EDDY, but does not mention his mother. Other similar entries for Morvah, and therefore potentially Thomas's siblings: (a) Andrew EDDY, 19 Oct 1777 (b) Anne EDDY, 03 Jan 1779 (c) William EDDY, 06 Feb 1780 (d) Richard EDDY, 06 Jan 1782 (e) Elisabeth EDDY, 23 Jun 1784 (f) Christiana EDDY, 23 Jul 1785 (g) Mary EDDY, 24 Oct 1802 (h) Elisabeth EDDY, 02 Sep 1804 (i) Christiana EDDY, 07 Sep 1806 (j) William EDDY, 04 Feb 1738... obviously too old, included to complete children of William EDDY (and mother not mentioned), baptised in Morvah.

If Thomas EDDY was the son of this William and Ann (and not one of the other William and Ann possibilities...), then I think it likely that (a)-(f) of the above were his siblings. There are two main reasons for this assumption. Firstly, I think the couple probably resided in Morvah, even though the wedding took place in St Just (Ann MASON came from St Just). The marriage register stated 'William of Mervah'. The second reason is the naming pattern of Thomas EDDY's children is very similar to his siblings (William and Ann's children) - in both families children were named Andrew, Richard, William and Christian(a).

The gap between (f) in 1785 and (g) in 1802 is suspiciously long, so (f) was probably the last child baptised to a William that belongs to this family.

Geoff McKee proposes that Andrew EDDY and Jane JENKIN are William's parents.
