| Shared note | James and wife Jane, with James's brother John and wife Mary Ann, left Plymouth at 5pm on 19 Sept 1848, on board the "William Money" and arrived in Adelaide, South Australia on 3 Jan 1849. A file from Robert Eddy, had James EDDY's baptism as 2 Aug 1820 in St Just, but that James is the son of William and Elizabeth, whereas an alternative source, Clem Eddy, has James EDDY's baptism as 6 Jul 1828 in St Just, son of John and Elizabeth. Both sources have their James as marrying Jane UREN, and of the two I believe the latter is correct since it appears that James and Jane's first son was named John. Also, James's age when he married Jane in 1848 was given as 20. Notes from Val Skinner: Widower James moved from Creswick 50 kms away to Maldon where his mother Elizabeth (nee Clemens)was living. Several years later in 1866 he married for a 2nd time to Elizabeth Sangster and they went on to have three daughters. |
