Marriage

Notes from Geoff McKee: Benjamin EDDY (son of William EDDY and Mary BOSENCE) married Mary OLIVER (daughter of James OLIVER and Christian BOND) 15 Jul 1809 St Just by banns, both single, both of this parish, in the presence of B. TREMBATH and Thos. TREGEAR.

I believe Geoff's conclusion on Benjamin's parents could well be wrong, but I have included them here to records Geoff's assumptions.

Occupation

Tin Dresser

Occupation

Van Driver

Shared note

As this is the earliest Benjamin EDDY recorded in the baptism registers, the forename was probably passed down from his maternal line.

Notes from Rebecca Williams (nee EDDY): Benjamin lived at Chapel Street, St Just in Penwith, and owned the horse bus service - the first in St Just - and operated a daily service to Penzance, including carrying the Royal Mail. Apparently, all the daily mail for St Just could fit into a bowler hat! Benjamin died when his grandson Benjamin was aged about 4. One of Benjamin's daughters married a THOMAS and one a HARVEY. One daughter went to Millom, Cumbria with her husband for slate mining.

Geoff McKee also notes another possible son, Thomas bap. 31 Jul 1831 Sancreed; buried 17 Dec 1833 St Just aged 2 of Truthwall. Also Benjm. EDDY was a witness to the marriage of William CHAPPLE and Nanny THOMAS 31 Oct 1836 St Just
