Shared note

Notes from Val Stephenson: John Nankervis Hocking, bap 24 Feb 1850 in St. Just is my great grandfather who married Annie Davey in St. Just, then immigrated to Melbourne, where they were licensees of the Rose of Australia Hotel, in Bendigo. Nicholas, John's father, apparently arrived in Australia in 1854 and worked in the Ballarat area before marrying a second time to a Mary Hill in 1867, where more children were born, only three living beyond infancy. We are unable to find anything about Nicholas's first wife, Christiana - divorce, death or even coming to Australia with Nicholas, but then disappearing. I have two of their sons, James arriving on the ship Norfolk Oct. 1868, and William arriving on Western Empire ship, August 1870 to Port Philip. I cannot find Nicholas or John on any shipping index
