| Shared note | I believe that William EDDY and Elizabeth GRILLS are probably the correct parents of Elizabeth, but I can't be sure. Elizabeth was aged 35 in the 1851 Census, suggesting a birth year of 1816. Assuming this is correct, there is (to my surprise) only one Elizabeth baptised in 1816, daughter of William and Elizabeth. The next is 1819 in St Buryan, and the previous is 1815 (4 baptisms, in Zennor twice, Sancreed and St Just in Penwith). Prior to 1815, there are 2 in 1811. If the Elizabeth that married Nicholas VEAL was from St Just (most likely since the marriage was in St Just and Nicholas was from St Just), and born in 1816 this is the correct Elizabeth. Also, Geoff McKee (who, incidentally, proposes this Elizabeth as Nicholas VEAL's wife) has a marriage for the other Elizabeth baptised 1815 in St Just. Notes from another genealogist: Elizabeth re-married as a widow 8 Feb 1862 to John CHAPPEL a widower aged 40 years. Elizabeth gave her age as 40 years on the marriage certificate (she was really 46 years). She arrived in Australia on the "Percy" on the 27 April 1870, listed as Elizabeth VEAL, accompanied by Eliza and Annie, her other three daughters were already in Australia. In 1882 she re-married Charles PARFETT at Horsham, then moved to Ballarat. Charles was the father of William PARFATT who married Eliza in 1883. |
