Shared note

(Medical):William became a student teacher at the age of 16. He could not afford to go to Teachers College and had to complete all his qualifications by correspondence. He moved to many districts around Victoria and played football with Euroa. He spent 9 yrs at Berriwillock and was there when in 1937 a Polio Epidemic closed the school. Bill and Elsie played tennis and golf and were members of the Presbyterian church. He enjoyed singing and gardening and he was a member of the Masonic lodge. He was a Headmaster at Longwarry for 12 years and despite being conservative in many ways he was an enthusiastic member of the Victorian Teachers Union.
