Left Liverpool, England 9 December 1862 arriving in Hobson's Bay, Australia on the ship "Great Tasmania" on 26 March 1863. Robert went to New Zealand on 30 October 1865 on the ship "S.S. Rangitoto" and landed at Hokitika on the west coast of the South Island. He remained there for almost twelve months before returning to Hobson's Bay on the ship "Gothenburg" on 14 September 1866.
