Listed in Kelly's Directory of Cornwall 1893 at St Just in Penwith: Eddy James Daniel, farmer, Kelynack

James Howard Eddy said that... In about 1864, James Daniel EDDY and wife Ann Sophia made the decision to emigrate to Australia. They went to Plymouth from where their ship departed, only for it to be wrecked near to Plymouth. Whilst escaping the wreckage, James Daniel carried his daughter Mary Sophia in a shawl in his mouth, as he climbed a rope ladder. The family returned to Cornwall, where they stayed. James Daniel Eddy and family moved to Kelynack in Easter 1871 (daughter Maud was about 18 months old). They moved from Cot Valley, from a place below where the Land's End YHA is currently located - a distance of about half a mile!

James Howard EDDY also believed he remembered his father saying he (Howard Thomas EDDY) was the youngest of 9 children, and that Mary Sophia was the 2nd child although maybe the 1st had died. I have only found baptism entries for 8 children, however there is a burial for an unnamed EDDY on 25 Oct 1862 in St Just, residence New House, Botallack, St Just, noted as James Eddy's child. Possibly this one?

Will dated 10.10.1898: Live and dead stock and £30 of Life Assurance to Howard Thomas Eddy, household furniture and £70 of Life Assurance less funeral expenses to Ann Sophia Eddy. Witnesses: Richard Roberts and James Henry Thomas. Buried 14.10.1898, aged 59.
