Marriage

Notes from Geoff McKee: Richard EDDY married Margaret ROW, 18 Jul 1812 in St Just, by banns, both single, both of this parish, in the presence of Nicholas WHITE and Thos. TREGEAR.

Shared note

Unfortunately, I haven't found conclusive proof of who this Richard EDDY married, so I've looked at a combination of marriages (after Richard was of an appropriate age) and then the names of the children baptised to each couple.

There are many possible marriages in the area (between 1802 and 1825): (a) Richard EDDY Joan CHIRGWIN 11 Jan 1806 St Just in Penwith (b) Richard EDDY Elizabeth TREMETHACK 11 Apr 1807 Madron (c) Richard EDDY Margaret ROW 18 Jul 1812 St Just in Penwith (d) Richard EDDY Mary EDDY 18 Jul 1812 Zennor (e) Richard EDDY Elizabeth SEMMENS 08 Dec 1813 Zennor (f) Richard EDDY Patience DANIEL 15 Jan 1814 Madron (g) Richard EDDY Jane TREWREN 29 Jul 1814 St Just in Penwith (h) Richard EDDY Elizabeth THOMAS 18 Nov 1814 Zennor (i) Richard EDDY Grace WARREN 14 May 1815 St Buryan (j) Richard EDDY Elizabeth THOMAS 23 Dec 1817 St Just in Penwith (k) Richard EDDY Jane ROWE 22 Jul 1821 Sancreed

Richard may not have married, nor have had children if he did marry. However, the naming pattern of the children Richard and Margaret, (c) above, would appear to be in keeping with this family. The names are: Margaret, Richard, Peter, Ann, Mary (twice), and John. Of these, Peter is the most interesting as it is quite unusual and gives the best indication that this is the family of Richard Grenfell EDDY, who has an uncle and great uncle named Peter.
