Shared note

Abode: Bostraze when William was christened and that's also where William's son Jacob was when he married Mary Jane.

In the 1841 census, at Bostraze, ref St Just in Penwith 5-94: EDDY«tab»John«tab»35«tab»M«tab»Miner«tab» EDDY«tab»Jane«tab»35«tab»F«tab»«tab» EDDY«tab»John«tab»12«tab»M«tab»Miner«tab» EDDY«tab»Jacob«tab»9«tab»M«tab»«tab» EDDY«tab»Joseph«tab»6«tab»M«tab»«tab» EDDY«tab»William«tab»3«tab»M«tab»«tab» EDDY«tab»Jane«tab»9m«tab»F«tab»«tab»

In the 1851 census at no. 69 Bostrase, St Just (transcription courtesy of Geoff McKee): John«tab»EDDY«tab»H«tab»m«tab»47«tab»tin miner«tab»«tab»b. St Just William«tab»"«tab»S«tab»«tab»13«tab»«tab»«tab»b. St Just Jane«tab»"«tab»D«tab»«tab»10«tab»«tab»«tab»b. St Just

The 1851 census also had No.18 at Nanjulian, St Just, Jacob EDDY, 18, b. St Just; farm lab. with John and Grace NEWTON and family.

Not sure if this is the correct family, but this could be them in the 1861 census, ref St Just in Penwith 16-85: EDDY«tab»Jane«tab»Head«tab»W«tab»45«tab»Madron CON«tab» EDDY«tab»John«tab»Son«tab»U«tab»30«tab»St Just CON«tab» EDDY«tab»Jane«tab»Daughter«tab»U«tab»20«tab»St Just CON«tab» Note: Jane's age must be incorrect if this is to be this family.

Originally I had several other children in this family that were baptised to a John and Jane, which I now believe probably belong to other families due to their absence from the censuses: John (14 Nov 1843), Jane (28 Sep 1845), Grace Selina (3 May 1846), John (31 Jan 1847), John (23 May 1847) and Edwin (18 Feb 1849).

From John's age given in the 1851 census, there are only the following as possible baptisms for John, son of: (a) William EDDY & Mary -, 31 Oct 1802 (b) Oliver EDDY & Mary -, 16 Oct 1803

Having researched the family of (a), I believe that John never married, leaving (b) as the correct baptism for this John.

The following are the key points mentioned in the will of a John Eddy, whom I believe to be this John. 1852 John Eddy of St Just, miner. Wife: Jane. Tregeseal and Bosvargus, and Bostraze. Sons: John, Jacob, Joseph and William. Daughter: Jane, aged less than 21). Witnesses: Benjamin Wallis, Richard White, James Murrish.
