Shared note

Assuming Richard was at least 18 when his son Richard was baptised (in 1751), Richard senior would have been born before 1733. There are the following possible baptisms for a Richard, son of: (a) Richard EDY & Alice - 05 Jun 1703 St Just in Penwith
(b) William EDDY & - - 02 Apr 1704 Ladock
(c) Matthew EDY & Joan - 06 Jun 1711 St Just in Penwith
(d) John EDDY & - - 19 Jun 1726 Illogan (e) Richard EDDY & - - 11 May 1729 Madron
(f) Richard [Ralph] ? EDY son of Richard EDY & Ann - 29 May 1731 St Just in Penwith
(g) Richard EDDY & - - 14 Jul 1733 St Just in Penwith

Of these, (c) is unlikely as the names used in that family (Oliver, Matthew, Jacob, Honour) are not those used in Richard's son's family. The other baptisms are possible - further investigation needed.

There are the following marriages for a Richard before 1751: (A) Richard EDDY Ann OSBORNE 13 Jun 1730 St Just in Penwith
(B) Richard EDDY Frances BANFIELD 17 Nov 1741 Lelant
(C) Richard EDDY Mary EUSTICE 24 Dec 1747 Sithney (D) Richard EDDY Hannah TREGEGLAS 30 Sep 1749 St Michael Caerhays

On location alone, (D) is very unlikely, but the others are possible. However, looking at other children baptised to a Richard in Gulval around 1751 (data gathered 1731-1771), there are the following: (1) Mary EDDY dau of Richard EDDY & - - 27 Feb 1743 (2) Joan EDDY dau of Richard EDDY & - - 16 Feb 1746 (3) Frances EDDY dau of Richard EDDY & - - 13 Nov 1748 (4) Richard EDDY son of Richard EDDY & - - 01 Sep 1751 (5) Anne EDDY dau of Richard EDDY & Anne BLIGHT 06 Jan 1749 (6) Anne EDDY dau of Richard EDDY & - - 03 Feb 1754 (7) Jennifer EDDY dau of Richard EDDY & - - 28 Jun 1760 (8) Blanch EDDY dau of Richard EDDY & - - 04 Sep 1763 (9) Alice EDDY dau of Richard EDDY & - - 29 Jul 1764 (10) Elisabeth EDDY dau of Richard EDDY & - - 11 Jul 1765 (11) Edward EDDY son of Richard EDDY & - - 21 Aug 1766 (12) Edward EDDY son of Richard EDDY & - - 22 May 1768 (13) John EDDY son of Richard EDDY & - - 23 May 1769

The most striking of these is Frances - a very unusual EDDY forename. (There are only 2 in west Cornwall, the other being in Sancreed in 1856.) I think it very likely that Frances (3) was the daughter of Richard EDDY and Frances BANFIELD, couple (B). Given that this places couple (B) in Gulval, and that Richard baptised 1751 is the 1st Richard baptised after 1741 (marriage (B)), I believe Frances to be the wife of this Richard (senior) and the mother of Richard (junior, bap 1751).

The question then follows, how many of the other children listed above can be attributed to this couple? Looking for other possible parents, the next marriage involving a Richard is on 21 Sep 1759 in Gulval to Jane NEKERVIS. Therefore I have attributed all children baptised to a Richard between 1741 and 1759 to Richard and Frances.

Info from Geoff McKee: Richard EADY of Ludgvan and Joan RICHARDS had a son Richard EDDY or RICHARDS bap. 10 Jun 1717 Gulval who m. Frances BANFIELD 17 Nov 1741 Uny-Lelant.
