| Shared note | Assuming William was at least 20 when married, he would've been 54 for the 1841 census. However, there are 8 entries for a William aged 50 and over, none of which I believe to be this William. Two can be dismissed from Gorran and St Winnow, a further 4 have already been attributed to other families, leaving: EDDY William 50 M Tanner Gulval 25-131 EDDY William 60 M Tin Dresser St Just in Penwith 2-122 (Boscaswell) None of the Gulval family's names match this family, leaving only the St Just family, ref 2-122: EDDY William 60 M Tin Dresser EDDY Elizabeth 60 F EDDY Eliza 20 F Whilst this is a possibility, especially with a wife called Elizabeth, I think the move to St Just is unlikely after all their children were baptised in Paul and presumably their family home was there. In fact, subsequent generations were still located at Trevelloe, Paul, so I think this a different family in St Just. Of course, another option is that William had died before the 1841 census. I haven't found an appropriate MI but there is a burial record that might suit: EDDY William aged 67, buried 19 Nov 1830 at Paul, ref 1102 FP172 1/20. This would imply a birth year of 1763, making him 44 when married - older than would be expected. At that age he could've been the father of this William. Notes from a fellow researcher, Geoff McKee, on the marriage of William and Elizabeth state that she was a widow of Penzance. This suggests Elizabeth may have been slightly older, so maybe William was slightly older than usual too. Therefore, in the absence of any better evidence, the combination of the burial record and absence in the 1841 census, the burial location and the possibility that William may have been slightly older than usual to have married a widow, I believe we are talking about this William EDDY. |
